Mission

Since the introduction of Personal Computers in the 1980's, the impact of computers on the daily life is permanently growing. In the 21st century the digital revolution that initially started in the offices has also reached the homes. The Internet is no longer used by scientists or business people only. Thanks to cheap broadband access almost everybody now queries the Internet for information and uses it to get and stay in touch with family, friends, and basically anyone all over the world.

Even more, people increasingly strive for being always on, being capable of receiving new information as well as communicating with their private and business partners. Mobile devices become more and more powerful. Both fixed and particularly also wireless network access becomes more and more commonplace and affordable. Ubiquitous and pervasive computing is transitioning currently from a dream to reality.

The Mobile Computing and Communication Group aims at developing new strategies and technologies to foster Mark Weiser's vision. Our goal is to improve user experience and perception in the mobile realm. Relieving the human from technical details is essential, and self-organization is key in this respect. In cooperation with our partners, we are actively researching and developing prototypical solutions in several domains, including mobile learning and ubiquitous gaming to name two concrete examples. Establishing a framework of services that can be used to build powerful mobile and ubiquitous applications in an easy way is our ultimate ambition.
